One key element in realizing this is not only her elevated word choice but the fact that the article itself was printed in The New Yorker magazine. She speaks greatly in her article of the mind set of the child and the struggles the young adult goes through, yet while this explanation is geared to the audience(the adult), she speaks as if she is talking directly to the child themselves.
