• This quote takes place the  day after the aptitude test and moments before Beatrice will get cut and choose what faction she will try to join.  In this quote, Beatrice is describing something she has read in her Faction History text book before.

• Why would Beatrice think about this?  

-In this moment of the book, Beatrice is about to go out and choose a different faction. This means she will be abandoning her family and letting the faction of her chose become her new family. This quote directly relates to her situation. 

• How does this relate to Dystopias 

-Dystopias are the opposite of the perfect society. A society in which your family is nothing compared to what faction you reside in is a very strong dystopian feature. Choosing to die for the good of your faction makes no sense. Why leave everything and sacrifice everything for this faction that does not do much for you. But the people in Divergent have no choice. They do not know any better.

• Why does this quote matter

- This quote shows that Beatrice is willing to give up her family for her new faction. This quote shows how backwards the society in Divergent really is. This quote also foreshadows that Beatrice really will end up giving her family for her faction.
