Summary:In this moment, Tris finally starts to reject her abnegation name and she decides to adopt a new self. By introducing herself differently it shows Tris's want to move on and fully take part in the new world that she has chosen.


  • Why use a change of name to show that tris is part of something new?
Veronica Roth uses a name to change to show that Tris is part of something new because one's name is very central to their identity and by changing her name, it in turn represents how her identity has changed.
  • Why does tris want to move on from her old life?
Tris wants to move on from her old life because she doesn't want to regret the decision that she made. Her parents were astonished and disappointed that tris chose a faction other than abnegation and so she wants to bury their guilt by moving on.
  • What does this say about Tris as a person?
This shows that Tris is very determined to whatever she wants to accomplish in life. This is shown by Tris going as far as changing her identity to better suit her faction.
