Caleb Hartsock-Blogpost 1
1. Children.
Adult.
2. Preditermination- slotted, arranged, harvested, engineered, brainwashed, outfitted.
3. abide/defy
4. The binary of "abide" and "defy" is key to describing the struggle of many dystopian novels and more specifically the hunger games. The characters are in a world that controls everything and the only way to be free of that world is to defy it. This binary is significant when comparing any dytopia though, as it is where most of the realizations come from.
5. In the intro of this piece, the author noted that our "hovered-over" teens may be safer, but also less conductive to adventure. This seems to break the pattern of control and defial. In all of the stories with such controlling societies, the children are more likely to try and break the curtain of lies, which to me seems like adventure. This incongruity may just be the difference between reality and dystopia, but it seems critical to bridging that gap.
