For unit 3, I would like to write about the videogame The Walking Dead. Telltale’s The Walking Dead provides an alternative
narrative to those in the same-named graphic novels and TV shows. It follows a
series of characters through their attempt at survival in a post-apocalyptic,
zombie filled world. The series focuses, however, unlike most survival
narratives like this, the main character is a little girl named Clementine. This offers an alternative viewpoint on how
children relate to the world, and sets up a foundation for players to observe
realistic threat to children, rather than them being somehow untouchable like
in other narratives. The Walking Dead also
includes a number of groups in which a dystopian-style totalitarian power
system has developed. Due to the recent/current apocalypse setting, rather than
a well-developed resulting government, the causes of these power structure can
be analyzed in greater depth. That kind of analysis offers new ideas about how
someone in dystopia is able to gain power, rather than an established system
maintaining it.
