1. The Reaping Scene. In this scene we see District 12 gathered together as Effie picks the tributes for the Hunger Games.

2. Observations
Ob1: Effie is dressed very eccentrically and is wearing couture and high heels.
Ob2: the people of the district are dressed very dull and monotone in basic clothing even though that represents the best of what they have
Ob3: no one looks directly into the camera
Ob4: there is no background music during the scene
Ob5: no one is smiling except for Effie
Ob6: the peacekeepers are dressed in all white very armor type outfits
Ob7: camera work is shaky and jolting
Ob8: there is clear separation between Effie and the District
Ob9: lots of close up shots

3. Implications of Observation 2
Im1: The Districts clothing shows their status as lower than Effies
Im2: Effies clothing and styling show how much money she has and her status
Im3: the people of the district are clearly unhappy and have no choice whether or not they can be there
Im4: Effies eccentricity shows how the world of the Capital and the world of the districts are 2 different worlds
Im5: the stark contrast shows the capitals disregard towards the districts.
Im6: the capital clearly has money to spare while the people of the district are fighting to survive
Im7: the people of the districts have no power

4. This film scene is representative of the lack of free will and regard for human life in the society. The Capital doesn't care what happens to the people of the Districts as long as they get their resources. There is stark contrast in wealth and happiness and freedom. To the capital, the people of the districts are not people at all but rather moving parts of a machine that can easily be replaced.
