Wade Blair- Blog Post 6

1. X: The scene of Immortan Joe's speech to the people shows how with him having all the power and resources it leads to a completely depressive society.

detail 1: A medium shot is used in this scene to show to the viewer just how desperate these people are, the leader barely having enough energy to talk as he struggles to get the words out of his mouth.

detail 2: The camera pans up to Immortan Joe as he says “Do not, my friends, become addicted to water. It will take hold of you, and you will resent its absence.”

2. Y: In Douglas Williams "Ideology as Dystopia" he expresses Dystopias as negative Utopias. Which directly relates to Immortan Joe putting his society in a depressive state. Williams later says "People would prefer to flee"(384). Obviously from Immortan Joe's ruthless control I'm sure the people in society would want to flee as well.

Detail: In this scene Immortan Joe is talking down to all of these helpless people suggesting the negative Utopia. He is so far above the people to show just how much power he has.

3. The movie Mad Max: Fury Road seems to be about two protagonists salvaging society, however as Douglas Williams states "Utopias are negative Dystopias"the movie seems to actually argue how a society gets pushed to a depressive state by a overpowering ruler.
