Sydney Swigart bp4

The scene in The Hunger Games where Rue dies and Katniss kills the guy who trapped her, then the focus on Katniss sitting there with Rue after she dies.

Observation 1: The lighting is kind of dark implying sadness and possible regret

Observation 2: After Katniss kills the guy the camera goes back to her and focuses on her face- you can see sadness in her expression

Observation 3: The camera also focuses on Rue and then Katniss and Rue together after Rue dies.  Katniss is crying and you can tell how sad she is with the whole situation

Observation 4: Dim lighting as well as colors of clothes and surrounding features while Katniss is sitting there

Observation 5: Camera goes back and forth between the two but mostly focuses on Katniss and he facial expressions proving that Katniss was sad about Rue and also that she probably didn’t want to kill this guy but felt like she owed it to Rue to do so

Observation 6: Camera is eye level and this is in order to make us feel like we are there with them to make the viewer feel more and to try and understand how Katniss might be feeling right now

Observation 7: Close up or Rue as well as a close up of Katniss to show her emotions about Rue

I will use observation #4 to find implications

Implication 1: This shows how unhappy everything is

Implication 2: It shows a sense of regret and sadness

Implication 3: It also creates a sense that things are bad all around them and not just in this exact situation

Implication 4: This may show regret from Katniss killing the guy even though she probably did it for Rue

Implication 5: It might imply that there are more bad events to come

Implication 6: Gives the audience an idea of how emotional Katniss feels at this moment and how hard Rue’s death is

Implication 7: Shows possible control.  Things are sad and dark now that Katniss killed this guy and Rue is dead but Rue shouldn’t have died and katniss regrets killing this guy or so it seems.  Is someone controlling them? (govt?)

Analysis: This is representative of the issue of government control.  This is because there is so much government control exerted over them that there are normal people killing others simply because they have to.  I’m sure the guy wouldn’t have killed an innocent girl for no reason and consequently Katniss wouldn’t have killed him.  The darkness in the scene provides an idea of sadness and little control.
