Between Moylan’s Preface and William’s Ideology as Dystopia, they both repeatedly use the word “human” and “humanity”. Moylan has a more negative tone about humanity because in his writing, humanity is usually destroyed through the authoritarian state that the dystopia societies are in. Humans are more associated with violence and therefore less humane because of the social environment they are in. However in William’s article, being human was more questionable. He bring up the binary of human vs machine. Within this, he questions what makes up being human. There is a more positive tone because he talks about the “love, humor, and irony” that makes up a human. Yet, Williams still doesn’t know if this qualifies to make someone human because of the lack of their human body. This makes “human” more questionable.
