I will be doing a 10-1 of the Cornucopia Bloodbath Countdown Scene in The Hunger Games. This is where the Games are about to begin and the countdown begins.

Observation 1: There are no words or music in this scene; there are sounds of the countdown and electronically distorted sounds
Observation 2: The camera flashes back and forth between Katniss and the Cornucopia (at the bow specifically)
Observation 3: The camera goes from the tributes to the Capitol to District 12
Observation 4: The people in the Capitol are dressed in bright colors and are cheering while they eat fancy food and drink special drinks
Observation 5: The people of the Capitol starkly contrast the people of District 12
Observation 6: The people of District 12 are dirty, thin (probably starving), very monochromatic in bleak browns and grays, and completely somber with no cheering at all
Observation 7: When the Bloodbath begins, the camera bounces around to represent the frantic atmosphere of the violence
Observation 8: Every time a tribute is killed, the camera is pointed up towards the killer as if the audience is the one being killed.

The observation I will be finding implications for is Observation 8: Every time a tribute is killed, the camera is pointed up towards the killer as if the audience is the one being killed.

Implication 1: This film technique could be used to give the audience a sense of helplessness
Implication 2: This also emphasizes the violence that society has been reduced to
Implication 3: The tributes no longer have an identity but have been reduced to savages that live a "kill or be killed" mantra
Implication 4: This represents the savage nature of human beings
Implication 5: This is representative of what the government is trying to control, the viciousness of humans
Implication 6: This shows the control the government has over the people just like the killer over the victim
Implication 7: The government holds no respect for life

Analysis: This represents the issue of control by the government that is prevalent in dystopias. The government has come to a position of so much authority that it can even make the children within it fight to the death. The government has controlled the people in attempts to control the violent nature of human beings, or in the case of the Hunger Games, to prevent violent uprisings agains the authority. However, in doing so, it has sparked the very thing it tried to destroy. The government has become violent and immoral; the very things it has tried to rid human nature of.
