In this scene, Max and Furiosa fight for the first time and the  "wives" are introduced for the first time.

Observation 1: The slave wives wear white clothing
Observation 2: Max and Furiosa wear dark heavy outfits
Observation 3: Furiosa and max only grunt when they fight
Observation 4: The only word max says to the wives is "you"
Observation 5: The scene uses a lot of close ups between the characters
Observation 6: Low camera angle is used when Max and Furiosa are fighting
Observation 7: The wives talk in very low voices if they talk at all
Observation 8: Long shot is used at the end of the scene when max is driving away
Observation 9: Deep focus is used when Max and Furiosa are fighting
Observation 10: There's a vector in the shape of a chain between Max and Nux

Implications (number 7)

Implication 1: The wives have never been able to speak up because of what they were in immortan joe
Implication 2: They haven't had individual freedoms before now
Implication 3: They aren't used to being able to express themselves
Implication 4: They are used to being told what to do
Implication 5: They have never seen the outside world before
Implication 6: They are confused as to what is outside where they came from
Implication 7: They are used to men talking over them and being in control
Implication 8: They are pure and innocent
Implication 9: They don't usually speak their mind about what is going on

This scene represents the extreme control of Immortan Joe. Even though he does not have a presence in this scene, there is a lasting effect of this control on the people. Since they are slave wives, they never been able to disagree against what he wanted, they had to just do it. Therefore when they finally have the freedom to express themselves, they still do not do it with enthusiasm and much volume because they never had this right. Talking quietly and if at all is something that they are used to so they continue to do so. This shows that Immortan Joe still has control over them even when not around.
