I chose a scene from the Hunger Games

1. In this scene, the tributes are presented to the Capitol through a parade. Katniss and Peeta seem to       stand out from the rest and capture the attention of the Capitol.

Observation 1:
The colors of the people and their clothing are bright and vibrant, they contrast with the dull, dark colors of the building structure.
Observation 2:
The people who live in the Capitol have very colorful, sometimes monochromatic, extravagant clothing that is almost gaudy in a way.
Observation 3:
The tributes are dressed up in costumes that reflect their district. They are showy and extravagant.
Observation 4:
The music is orchestral and it grows in volume. It sounds regal and the trumpet is prominent, making it seem sort of like a fanfare.
Observation 5:
The camera angle comes down on Katniss and the other tributes, as though it is the perspective of those people of the Capitol as the look down on the chariots entering the area.
Observation 6:
The camera gives a close up of Katniss's face once she enters the arena and is completely overwhelmed by the presence of it.
Observation 7:
Katniss looks straight at the screen of herself and around the crowd, attempting to take in what she sees.
Observation 8:
The camera looks up at those of the Capitol and those in power.

I chose Observation 3

Implication 1:
The costumes show that Katniss and Peeta stand out amongst the rest of those from their district, they are extravagant and not meager.
Implication 2:
The costumes show that Katniss and Peeta, along with the other tributes, are seen as special by those of the Capitol, they are seen as something similar to entertainers or celebrities.
Implication 3:
The costumes show that the tributes are really solely there at the Capitol to entertain those of the Capitol, which does not reflect the gruesome reality that these tributes will be faced with.
Implication 4:
The costumes show that there is a contrast between those that live in the Capitol and those that live in some of the poorer districts, making it apparent that those of the Capitol are rich and able to be more vain.
Implication 5:
The gruesomeness of the future of the tributes and their pasts are not reflected in their costumes, because these costumes romanticize the aspects of their districts.
Implication 6:
The fire on Katniss and Peeta's costume captures the attention of the Capitol, commanding their attention, which continues to be a major part of the series.
Implication 7:
These extravagant costumes dress them up for the entertainment of the Capitol, objectifying them, and dehumanizing them.

4. This scene relates to a bigger issue by conveying how dystopian societies objectify those who aren't in power and under the authority of those who do have power. They are dehumanized and considered objects that are expendable Their individuality and humanity has been limited, as they have been chosen to fight to the death for the entertainment of those in the Capitol. They are truly considered objects by the government and is therefore, not of the same standing making them expendable.
