Spencer Miller blog post 5

Williams and Wolmark
  • females/gender
  • worlds in a worse shape than the real world
  • something that is stronger than the protagonist is in opposition to him or her

Wolmark and Williams both mention gender. They both say that gender is a big plot line in current dystopias. Wolmark says that the gender roles are drastically changing and females are often portrayed in lead roles. Williams also says that they are important but she brings up the fact that in "The Blade Runner" the female is a passive character. Though this is only one example, this fact goes against Wolmark's claim.
