Charlotte Humphrey Blog Post 4

1.     Katniss is comforting her sister, because she has had a nightmare. She tries to get her to go back to sleep and she sings her a song form their childhood, and her sister joins in.

2. Observation 1: Prim’s screams are heard while there is a still camera shot of the district.
Observation 2: Both characters are in the first shot and it is a close up of Prim’s arms wrapped around her sister.
Observation 3: The camera stays close and almost wobbly throughout the entire scene.
Observation 4: Extreme close-ups of both characters are used while they are talking.
Observation 5: The lighting is very dark and you cannot see much besides the characters.
Observation 6: Both characters are dressed in gray/white plain clothes.
Observation 7: While singing to Prim, the camera is angled up at Katniss.
Observation 8: The camera flips between both characters while singing.

3. Observation: Both characters are in the first shot and it is a close up of Prim’s arms wrapped around her sister.

Implication 1: The extreme close up emphasizes the importance of their bond.
Implication 2: Prim is the one holding on to her tightly which shows she is in distress.
Implication 3: This shows that she is scared and the one that needs comforting.
Implication 4: Which shows she is younger and that Katniss cares for her because she is holding onto her.
Implication 5: Katniss is in charge of her sister because she is the one taking care of her.
Implication 6: Which shows her maturity compared to Prim.
Implication 7: Katniss is in a motherly type of role.


Explanation: This scene is representative of the fear in dystopian societies. Prim is visibly scared and needs comforting by her sister, who is really all she has. Her screaming shows her fear, and the close shots set the details of the relationship between the sisters.
