Blog Post 4

         Summary: It is the opening scene of Mad Max and the first credits are seen. Max is by himself next to his car looking over the open landscape that is before him; his voice then begins to speak in a narrator type fashion.

Observation 1: The voiced over dialogue of opening credits suggest multiple means of disaster
Observation 2: The text of the credits has the actors names in an earthy color and their characters names in a jagged form with a crimson blood like color
Observation 3: Frightening images of nuclear war is shown, in black and white so it must have been sometime in the early 20th century
 Observation 4: Max starts telling his story as a narrator to the events being shown on the screen, he is not yet in view
Observation 5: Max is first seen as a long shot, him next to his car and the landscape in front of him.
Observation 6: The landscape around him is very earthy, very desert like.
Observation 7: Max hears voices entering the "black matter of [his] brain" showing that his mind must be dead in some kind of way.
Observation 8: The shot gets progressively closer to Max and then end up as a close up on his face eating the lizard he just stomped on.
Observation 9: As he beings to try to escape, the camera performs close ups on all of his belongings, which are the same colors as the landscape around him.
Observation 10: Chase scene begins as the classic car tire get away squeal shot is shown.

Implications of Observation 6: The landscape around him is very earthy, very desert like.
 Implication 1: The landscape is dead
Implication 2: Max seems to be mesmerized by the landscape, deep in thought
Implication 3: The rest of the unseen world is dead
Implication 4: The car Max drives is the same color as the landscape, it is old and used up
Implication 5: Max maybe is trying to blend in with what he is wearing
Implication 6: It is obviously a very dirty dark world that Max lives in
Implication 7: It's hard to tell exactly where Max is
Implication 8: Max is trying to figure out where in the landscape to go next

It is hard to tell what exactly is happening at the moment of this scene. This sort of scene is used to be a look into the past events, why Max is struggling, and what caused the world to be the way it is now. It can also be looked at as a glimpse into the future suffering and struggle that is to come. It is obvious that there was some kind of catastrophic timeline which led up to this point, which is displayed through multiple means of film adaptation.
