1.     1. The scene of Max’s fight against Furiosa and the wives displays the fight for dominance over each other.

Detail 1: The lack of dialogue shows that Max has more power because he is the only one that speaks. When he does, the women do nothing but comply to what he orders, giving him a sense that he has authority.  

Detail 2: At the end of the scene when Max drives away with Furiosa’s truck, they show a close up of her face displaying her intensity. The angle then shifts to a long shot of her gazing after the truck. Max might have dominance now, however, Furiosa will go after what is hers.

2.       2 In Jenny Wolmark’s article “Alternative Features? Science Fiction and Feminism” she claims that films “reproduce the dominant patriarchal ideology” (Wolmark 51). However, by doing so we “call those values into question” challenging the gender norms of society (Wolmark 51)

Details: At the very end of this scene when Max drives away with the truck it asserts his dominance. He won the fight and left the woman in the dust. This shows the “patriarchal ideology” However, these values are questioned when it shows Furiosa gazing after the truck, foreshadowing that her and max will be at it again for who has more power. She isn’t going to accept that he is in control.

3.    3.   As seen in the movie Mad Max: Fury Road men are portrayed as the prevailing characters, asserting their dominance over everyone else. However, when considering Wolmark’s idea that these positions are meant to be challenged, Mad Max is also arguing that women aren’t going to be walked over anymore, but will fight for what they deserve.
