Monica Villanueva - Blog Post 4

1. District 12 has their reaping ceremony. All of district is gathered together, girls on one side, boys on other, with parents at the back.

2.
-Large contrast between district 12's peoples gross, boring clothing and Effie's colorful makeup and clothing.
-The peacekeepers are kept in all white outfits with helmets so you can't see their faces.
-The entire district is very run down and dirty.
-Katniss and Gale watch each other a lot.
-The camera focuses on Effie's hand when she reaches into the bowl.
-Prim is very nervous and shaky throughout the entire thing.
-Prim's scream is very noticeable and almost the only sound you hear when Katniss volunteers for her.

3. Large contrast between district 12's people's gross, boring, clothing and Effie's colorful makeup and clothing.
    1. It shows how poor district 12 is.
    2. Their gray boring clothing also shows how they are viewed in the eyes of the capitol, very unnecessary.
    3. Effie's colorful clothing and makeup show how rich she is.
    4. Also shows how different the people from the capitol and districts are.
    5. Shows how much Effie/the capitol people care about unimportant things like looks.
    6. District 12's peoples run down looks show how they are barely surviving so have no time to care about those things.
    7. Their gray clothing gives off a very bland and sad feeling.

4. This scene has a lot to do with inequality between the government and the districts. In the past we have discussed this like in Divergent. The government people had a lot of power while the rest of the people were struggling and sad. It is the same in The Hunger Games. The people living in the districts are sad and run down, while anybody in the capitol or involved with the government have a lot of money and happiness.
