Moylan and Williams

Both essays identify the use of dystopian literature as a form of social and political commentary.
However, whereas Moylan is more critical of how modern dystopias are becoming less and less critical in exchange for more artistic value, Williams seems to claim that it is the use of such "expressionist" art as a means of illustrating realist social commentary through and alternative point of view. Whereas major social issues tend to slip through unnoticed in a realistic world, alternative worlds can create a society where the same social issues are absolutely noticeable and dysfunctional. This allows for the issues to be better analyzed than they would be in "realist" art or literature forms.
