Blog Post 4 (due Friday, 10/9 by 5 PM)

By this time, you will have discussed the skill of “10 on 1: Saying More about Less” (WA 105-106), and practiced how to apply the visual analysis tools to a film scene in class:

Rather than looking at the whole, you are looking in depth at a part that you think is representative of the whole. Note that 1 now stands for a single, rich, and representative example (ex: your film scene) and the 10 stands for the various observations that you are able to make about it. (105)

To prepare for Short Paper 3, pick a film scene from Mad Max: Fury Road, or The Hunger Games, and perform 10 on 1 on it. Follow the steps provided. While your tone for this blog post can be more conversational, make sure you number all your steps! Ideally, you will have already done some of this work through your film guides.

1. Provide a 1-2 sentence summary of your film scene.

2. Make 7-10 observations about the film scene, based in the visual analysis tools you’ve learned (camera angles, vectors, color, costuming, character, etc.). Label these observations accordingly.

3. Pick ONE observation from your list above and list 7-10 implications of this one detail. (For example, the color red in this scene implies blood and violence...) . This may be difficult to get 7-10, but try your best to come up with associations, even if they seem inconsequential.
